Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

I LOVE chocolate chip cookies. Neil makes my very favorite ones ever. I make them too but they aren't as good as when he does, nor do I look nearly as cute making them. However, I (somewhat) recently got this recipe for oatmeal raisin cookies from my friend Laura and it seriously challenges my love for it's chocolate counterpart. I made some on Saturday night and have been enjoying them so much I decided I was obligated to share the recipe here. So do yourself a solid and go make some!

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
1 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
1 1/2 cups oats
3/4 cup raisins

Cream first three ingredients together. Add egg and vanilla and mix well. Combine flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and oats together and then blend into creamed mixture. Stir in raisins. Drop by heaping teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 12 - 15 minutes.

I would post a picture but, uh, they're all gone.

  2. What the heck does "Do yourself a solid" mean? I am thinking that is a typo. I am still laughing about it--it sounds so funny! Oh--but the cookies sound great!

  3. exskuI wondered about that "solid" thing too. Is that some kind of Edmonton slang? Why didn't you make cookies for me when I was there? Oh yeah, I forgot I wasn't eating treats then (and I'm still not!).

  4. (By the way, I did not write "exskul" in my comment. That was one of those crazy "word verification" things and just happened to get into my comment--it is definetly not Surrey Slang!!)

  5. I like the comments about "do yourself a solid." The phrase reminds me of the only other place I've heard it, from one of my favorite movies, Juno: "Do me a solid and don't leave you're wife!" I like it. I'm going to start using. I should start using the cookie recipe, too. Well, I shouldn't, but I want to.
