Ssssssssssss

I love a happy ending.
I saw these pumps a month or so back and I loved them but didn't feel like spending the $25.00 they were (I know, I'm cheap, but for something I'll really only wear on Sundays I figured I wouldn't bother). BUT I couldn't stop thinking about them and all the things I wanted to pair with them so I went back to just pay the $25.00 and take them home. Wouldn't you know it they didn't have my size. I checked at the same store at a few different malls when I'd be out but of course there were never any in my size and eventually there weren't any to be seen at all. UNTIL today. I happened to see a pair at the store (not my size) and I asked the gal if they had any more which they didn't but she said she'd call to another mall (where I hadn't previously checked) to see if they had any AND THEY DID! She put them on hold so I packed up my kiddos and went and picked them up. And GUESS WHAT? They were HALF OFF. That's right my friends - $12.50 for these babies.

Platform nude snakeskin pumps, definitely worth the wait.

Like seriously, could you die?
(The picture really doesn't do them justice, I just wanna say.)

WIWW

The gal over at The Pleated Poppy runs this cute link-up party called What I Wore Wednesday and I want in! She started it as a way to challenge herself to put more thought into her outfits and getting herself done up for the day. Well since I'm missing a dozen other projects I'd like to be doing I figured at least I could take a picture of myself every day! And being here where I really just hang out in my apartment with my kids all day I could definitely use the motivation to get myself ready (oh what, I'm supposed to wash my sweatpants?!) I love clothes and fashion and I think I'm capable of  putting together a cute outfit once in a while so I'm totally going to start my What I Wore Wednesday project. I'll take a picture of my outfit each day and then post them on Wednesday. I would LOVE for you to do this with me, I'm inspired by other people's ideas and I love to see what cute things girls are wearing. If you think I'm a nut and this sounds totally lame go over and check out her parties, I think she'll sell you on it better than I can.

Today

Today I played under the sheets with Porter and Rigby. We were at sea and Porter was saving us from fish and sharks and octopuses and bears (??). Today I made a fort for Porter in the living room and he drove his cars in and out of it like it was a big garage. Today we put our favorite song (Tegan and Sara's "Walking with a Ghost"... not sure why but Porter l-o-v-e-s it) on repeat (and I mean REEEEPEAT) and danced in a circle (be sure to jump over the blanky, as per Porter's instructions.) Today Porter and I tickled Rigby until he giggled, and giggled, and giggled. Today I was a momma and nothing but a momma. Today was awesome.

Hold your babies a little longer tonight

Like probably many of you I recently came upon this blog. (Warning: you will cry.) It made my last post seem rather insignificant and I was left just feeling so grateful to be a momma, regardless of the associated perceived frustrations. Thank you for sharing your story and may you find comfort in your incredible faith.

My entire life's joy is wrapped up in 2 little boys and I want to treasure every moment. Life is so fragile.

Frustrated

Do you ever have days as a mom where you think man, I really stink at this job? Today is one of those days. Caring for Rigby is really easy- I feed him when he's hungry, put him to bed when he's tired, change his dirty diapers and love him in between. At 2 Porter is a little more work and honestly sometimes I'm not sure I'm cut out for the job. I'm pretty sure I let him watch too much TV, eat too much junk, I don't get down and play with him enough, I give in too easily which just encourages his whining, I get short with him too quickly, my initial response is most often "no" even if there's no reason for it, I don't teach him enough, and I feel like he can get whatever he wants - by like 7 he's going to be walking all over me. I don't want to be one of those moms. He really is such a wonderful child but he is STRONG WILLED and he is SMART and he is ARTICULATE and the combination is sometimes a challenge. I don't want to be hard on myself because as moms we do our best but I really think there are a lot of areas that need improvement.

Welp, tomorrow's another day.

Finally, a project!

I have been totally missing my sewing machine and my house full of things I want to craft and work on. I see all these cute projects gals are doing and I can't wait to get home and try some out. I finally did find one project that I could do in our little make shift home here and I'm really excited about it!

For a while now I've been wanting a pair of bright red flats but haven't found any that were exactly what I had in mind. Soooooo with all this DIY stuff going on I figured I'd make some! I've seen blogs where people spray paint shoes and I figured I'd try my hand at it. I found these little beauties for 50% off of $12.99 so I figured for $6.50 I could experiment and wouldn't be heartbroken if the whole thing was a disaster (but I really would have been).

I went to Wal Mart and bought some Krylon spray paint in Banner Red.  I taped off the sole of the shoe,
(I would strongly recommend using masking tape instead of scotch tape but like I mentioned our home is pretty skin and bones here and it's what I had. In hindsight I would have just bought some instead of buying the exacto knife I needed to scrape all the paint off the soles after it leaked through. Smart.)

stuffed the insides with paper towel and took it outside to paint.

I was surprised at how much the canvas fabric soaked in the paint and was actually a little skeptical that it would ever cover! If I were to do this again (and I will...) I would like to try a plastic/vinyl shoe and see how that covers. I let the shoes dry in between coats (and I  mean for like days.... ah when life gets in the way of projects.) and was really happy to see it finally start to cover the pattern. I used the entire can and actually wished I had a little more paint for a few touch ups. After all that I ended up with THESE! Sexy schmexy little red flats! Don't you want to hug and kiss them?

I had to take a little sand paper (who am I kidding, I used a nail file...) to the inside edges because the spray paint had dried kinda rough and was going to make hamburger of my heels but that totally did the trick and I wore them out to dinner with no problem. I'm pretty much in love with them and will be on the look out for my next pair of cheap flats to make-over. Think of all the colors and embellishments... mmmm!

Here's one more photo cause they're so darn cute and well, because those little toes are just as adorable!

Slow week

Well I wish I had something really fun and exciting to blog about but I have been home all week with a sick Rigby and truly haven't left my apartment. So unless you want to hear about folding laundry or watching The Emperor's New Groove (or "News Groove" as Porter calls it) one thousand times, there isn't really much to talk about. I believe Rigby is on the up and up and I'm hoping to make it out of the house tomorrow so stay tuned for that. A visit to Bulk Barn is in the works and I am EXCITED.

I want to try this!

I have already told you how talented I think my big sister Sharon is but check out her latest post! I can't wait to go home and try this. I want to make some for my living room, my bedroom, my boy's room, my basement, and I'm sure I could even find a place for pillows in my bathroom.... just think of all the things you could do! Leave her a note and become a follower, she's always up to something fun!

I'll be certified!

I am way so super excited!! I just registered for a Makeup Artistry course! It's a 6 week course and it may be the peon of cosmetology but it's what's available in my area and I CAN'T WAIT to start it! I've been obsessed with make up for years and I've wanted to learn how to properly and professionally apply it, and now I get to learn! I called last fall to register for the class but it had just started that week (seriously) so I couldn't get in and the next one was starting in March, the month I was having a baby. Sooooo, I called ahead today and registered for the course starting in November. I seriously can't wait! Anyone want a make over?!

Thanks Mandy!

Look what my sister in law Mandy taught me to do!! Oh now the possibilities are ENDLESS! Thank you Mandy for helping your smart sister in law out!! And how about a VIDEO just cause I know how!

This is totally random but I've been enjoying this little flashback all weekend. I've always been a sucker for guyliner.

I have 2 questions

I have a couple questions for those that are smarter bloggers than me (which is YOU, trust me.)

First, I want to know how you get that strikeout font, like when you write a word that has a line through it, like you crossed it out.
Second, I want to know how you change the word "comments" on your comments. I see people with cute things like "cool people said" or "smart remarks" or something like that.

How do you do these things? Help a girl out.
