WIWW #4

Doing this project was good for me this week, I was tired and a little tempted to just throw on the same pair of sweats every day but I stuck to it and here it is. I kinda got sick of the stand-on-the-edge-of-the-bed business so some photos are just of my top (cause the bottom was always jeans this week) close up in the mirror. Oh and I put the description before the photos this time cause I think it makes it easier when you're scrolling down. Anywayhoo...  here's what I wore:

This is not an announcement!

Yesterday, out of absolutely nowhere Porter says "I want a sister!"

I looked at him wide eyed and said "excuse me?" Then asked him why he wanted a sister.

"I already have a brother."

"You don't want another brother?"

He laughed with his head back "ahhh, 2 brothers, that's silly."

I said "you already have a brother so you think you want a sister huh? Where would you get a sister?"

"At the sister store."

Well you know how little kids are with their intuition so I REALLY hope he doesn't know something we don't! Although if it was just a matter of going to the "sister store" I would probably have another baby sooner, but since that isn't the case I'm afraid he'll have to wait.

Watch mom!

I can be staring Porter dead in the face, looking intently at whatever it is he is doing but until I actually say "I'm watching!" it's "watch mom, mom watch, momma, momma, mom, watch!" I even tried it out the other day when he was in the bath and I was sitting in the living room feeding Rigby. He was hollering at me to come watch him do something and  I said "In a minute Porter, I'm nursing Rigby." He kept hollering and telling me to "watch, watch, watch!" so I just yelled from the couch "Ok, I'm watching!" and I heard him splash away and carry on. Hahaa! I guess it's not actually watching but saying you are watching that counts with him. (This information may come in handy......)

Basement Blues

In just under 2 weeks we will finally be heading home. Neil is only staying for the weekend as he is going to come back up for post-season but the boys and I will be there for a week before heading back up to be with Neil for the rest of September. I am very excited to get back to my house EXCEPT for the fact that 1/2 of it is still in shambles! Our basement flooded and since it's just been sitting bare. I want nothing more than to go home and in that one week fix it all up and have it back to normal but I know that's not going to happen... can I really install a sump pump by myself?? Anyway, so this is what I've decided, I just have to look on the bright side of having a bare basement and figure out how to take advantage of the situation. I am definitely taking Porter's bike home for the week, he can ride and ride all over the basement, I think he'll love that. I'm sure I can find some spray painting projects that need to be done and now I have an entire basement to paint in! Those are the only 2 things I've come up with so far so if you have any ideas of how I can utilize my bare basement and make myself feel better about it, let me know!

I'm losing it!

My hair that is. I don't remember such hair loss after I had Porter but unless I'm reeeeally sick and don't know it I'm just attributing this to the ever growing list of things hormone changes do to your body. I seriously can pull out fingerfuls (I was going to say handfuls but that's a little over dramatic) at any given time. Neil's constantly picking hairs off my back and I'm finding them everywhere, and I mean everywhere (...diapers anyone?) I actually have really thick hair so I do have some to spare but I hope this lets up sooner than later.... cause I like having thick hair, or... any hair at all, for that.

We're pooped!

I think I've run my boys ragged this week. We have just gone non stop but it's been so much fun! Monday we played at the spray park, Tuesday we went bowling, Wednesday we rode the trolley train and then went to a movie (Despicable Me is darling), yesterday we went to West Ed to the Sea Caverns and rode the derby boats, today we RESTED and tomorrow we're going to Galaxyland to ride rides. I've had the van this week so I've really tried to make the most of it! I decided to take today off as yesterday when I put Rigby in his car seat he started to cry, haha! Poor boy. I am loving our summer here, this is such a great city. :)

A problem

I CAN'T STOP.

(And apparently I'm not the only one: according to their website a Cadbury Dairy Milk bar is sold around the world every 2 seconds.) (Yes, I was reading their website.)

I didn't get a picture of every outfit this week but I think I managed most of them so here they are, my WIWW #2:

(and ps. my pictures are somehow going from bad to worse, I think it's time to go and invest in a full length mirror so I can cut out this stand-on-the-edge-of-my-bed-and-take-a-picture-in-my-bathroom-mirror-with-crappy-lighting nonsense.)

Porter and Rigby

Porter has made up (out of nowhere) this little song:

Rigby Boo, Rigby Boo
Here I come
Rigby Boo, Rigby Boo
(then usually something with the word STINK in it) (he's allowed to say stink...)

and I think it's the most adorable thing in the world. It's more of a chant than a song but he "sings" it to Rigby a few times a day and I adore it. I am loving the way their relationship is growing. All on his own Porter has nick named Rigby Rigby Boo and sometimes it's just Brother. Porter is an incredibly protective brother - I can't leave the house or a store or the van without him saying "don't forget Rigby!" or "we can't leave Brother!" or something similar. I often overhear him saying "it's ok Rigby, I'm here," and little comforts like that. As a mother I am so in love with our newest addition and the joy he has brought to us but I can't help think what a wonderful gift it's been for Porter to have a sibling, especially a brother. Rigby gives Porter the biggest smiles he's got and no one can make him laugh like his big brother. Porter does pick on him somewhat (tonight I said, "give Rigby a kiss goodnight" and he said "I'll give him a headbutt!" ) but I know that he has so much love for that little boy and I am so grateful he is going to be a strong leader and good example for his brother.

Ok, ok, now I'm all teary eyed and sniffling but really, I don't know what greater joy I could have than being a mom and watching my children love each other.

The one-upper

Neil likes to one-up me. Actually I don't think he really likes it at all, let me explain.

Whenever I screw up and do something stupid Neil soon after messes up even worse, making mine look like no biggie. I'll illustrate: one time I backed up into a Shaw van (that was parked cross ways behind me, like hellooooo??) and cracked the bumper of our car. I was  horrified and felt so bad. A month later (on his birthday to boot, ha!) Neil slid into another vehicle and crunched the front of the car, cracking a headlight. (Poor car, I know.) Another time I accidentally left the van unlocked and our GPS was stolen. Three days later Neil left the back hatch of the van open and drove through our apartment parkade, shattering the entire back window. It cost double the price of the new GPS to have it fixed. Then, when I got a speeding ticket for $89 a couple weeks later sure enough Neil's showed up for over $100.

Soooo, thanks Neil! Nothing like having someone mess up worse than you to make you feel better about your mistakes!

My first What I Wore Wednesday

Ok, first I just want to say that I do really love fashion and clothes but I don't consider myself a little fashionista with any kind of knowledge to impart. I did this project for me and I've actually had a lot of fun doing it. I've learned that getting "ready" every morning doesn't mean you have to be overdressed for what you are doing but  also that it's ok to feel cute while you're folding laundry and making beds! I've also learned that I feel more energetic in the day if I'm a little done up and that I feel like I'm ready for anything, or anyone that might pop by. (I've also learned I'm a dingaling when it comes to my camera and am in desperate need of a tutorial of sorts. Sorry for the crummy photos. Aaaaaaaand I've learned that taking your pic in a mirror is really kinda awkward - smile? not smile? hmph.) I hope some of you have done this with me and if not I really encourage you to give it a try.

Mom Jeans

So I was laying in bed thinking about my post-baby body and the areas I'd still like to work on (exciting I know) and I think I invented mom jeans. Ok, I know they are already invented but now I can totally understand the function behind them, really. I was thinking how my jeans all fit but I hate the muffin top that hangs over the waistband and what could be done about that. All of my jeans are "low rise" to some degree and I decided that all I needed were some jeans with a higher waist. Now that I've had babies and have this new shape I need jeans that can hold it all in. *gasp* MOM-JEANS. Oh no you didant!! Ok, I'm not going to run out and buy a pair of these but I'm not so mocking of their use either.

(ps. have you seen this SNL skit? Fu-nny.)

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

I LOVE chocolate chip cookies. Neil makes my very favorite ones ever. I make them too but they aren't as good as when he does, nor do I look nearly as cute making them. However, I (somewhat) recently got this recipe for oatmeal raisin cookies from my friend Laura and it seriously challenges my love for it's chocolate counterpart. I made some on Saturday night and have been enjoying them so much I decided I was obligated to share the recipe here. So do yourself a solid and go make some!

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
1 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
1 1/2 cups oats
3/4 cup raisins

Cream first three ingredients together. Add egg and vanilla and mix well. Combine flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and oats together and then blend into creamed mixture. Stir in raisins. Drop by heaping teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 12 - 15 minutes.

I would post a picture but, uh, they're all gone.
